The potting corner at Yoghourt Hooks Plants is a small workbench, not a factory line. We keep open mixes suited to foliage houseplants, a stack of terracotta and ceramic pots with real drainage, and saucers that fit Antwerp window ledges. When you buy a plant that is ready for a larger home, we can pot it in the shop or send you home with mix and clear steps.
Most indoor plants fail from overwatering in pots without exits for water. We refuse decorative vessels that trap roots in a sealed bowl unless you accept a nursery liner inside. Honesty about drainage saves more plants than fancy glaze.
When to repot
Look for roots circling the base, soil that dries in a day, or a plant that tips because the canopy outweighs the pot. Spring and early summer are gentler for most foliage, but a plant drowning in compacted nursery soil can move sooner. We avoid huge jumps in pot size; one increment keeps moisture balanced.
After a repot, keep the plant out of harsh midday sun for a few days. Water once to settle the mix, then wait until the top layer feels dry again. New leaf growth is a better signal than a calendar.

On the bench
Soil stays covered between uses, tools are wiped after each plant, and leftover nursery plastic is recycled when the city collection allows. We prefer tidy work over rushed weekends when the aisle is crowded.
